Kent School District is committed to maintaining a learning and working environment free from harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and bullying. Employees, volunteers, parents, and students can expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.
No Bullies Allowed
Any act that insults or denies opportunity to any employee, student, parent, or other person involved in district activities because of that individual’s race, color, national origin, sex, age, creed, sexual orientation, marital or veteran status, or disability will not be tolerated. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, sexually motivated physical contact, as well as sexual comments are considered harassment and are not permitted. Bullying can take the form of threats, slurs, pranks, physical attacks, and other intentional behaviors. Bullying is not tolerated.
Reporting an Incident
Complaints may be reported without fear of retaliation. Anyone who personally or indirectly experiences conduct that violates this policy can discuss with or write to the offending person in an effort to have him or her stop. Also, anyone may feel free to bring the matter to the attention of the appropriate authority. These individuals include the school principal or department administrator, the assistant superintendent for human resources, and the superintendent. A report can also be filed by calling 253-373-7203.
Concerns will be investigated promptly and the district will take corrective action if deemed necessary at the investigation’s conclusion. It is vitally important to the district that all claims of discrimination and harassment of any kind, including sexual harassment, be reported.
Keeping Students Safe
KSD is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment. This commitment is supported through the services of both campus and patrol officers. In addition to enforcing district policies, KSD security officers serve as positive role models and mentors for elementary and secondary students, and also as a resource for staff and the community. The KSD Security Department provides 24-hour coverage for district buildings and property.
Authorized Use of Medication
Washington State law requires that any medication administered at school must be accompanied by a written authorization form signed by the health care provider and the parent or guardian. This includes over-the-counter medication such as pain medication or cough drops. While students may not possess any medication at school, a nurse or trained staff person can assist them with medication administration. Authorization forms are available at the links below, on the “For Parents” section of the KSD website, and at each school office or health room. An adult must bring the completed authorization form and medication in the original prescription container to the school office. In order to ensure that the best possible care is given during school hours, parents are encouraged to provide the school nurse with their child’s health information.
