Citizenship Matters in KSD
In KSD, we work to ensure that students master the academic skills needed for success after graduation. However, it is also important for students to understand that they are members of the larger community in which they live. KSD encourages students to realize that they can make a difference by getting involved in service learning projects. We will continue to update the Citizenship Matters webpage with examples of new service learning projects throughout the school year.

Safe Schools—Successful Students
Kent School District is committed to maintaining a safe learning and working environment free from harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or bullying. Employees, volunteers, parents, and students can expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.
KSD places security officers in schools as part of our commitment to a safe and supportive learning environment. The officers enforce district policies so all students have the opportunity to learn. Officers also serve as positive role models and mentors for students.

Communities in Schools of Kent
Communities In Schools of Kent (CISK) formed to help students remain in school, graduate, and be successful in life. The organization’s goal is to provide each selected student a relationship with a caring adult and a safe place to learn and grow. In 2003, CISK began providing on-site mentors to Meadow Ridge and Springbrook 4th and 5th grade students. In 2004, CISK expanded the program to Scenic Hill and Covington elementary schools. Mentors develop supportive relationships while encouraging students’ literacy and responsible work habits. CISK invites you to be directly involved in the life of a student by becoming a volunteer mentor.
- Commitment is one lunch hour per week—your emotional commitment is critical to student success.
- Initial orientation, training, and ongoing support are provided.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor or donating to Communities in Schools of Kent, please call (253) 638-1110, ext. 2262.
