Web Gallery

The Web Photo Gallery command lets you export your images as a gallery Web site, complete with a thumbnails index page, individual JPEG image pages, and navigable links. Photoshop automatically processes and resizes the images and HTML code to simplify the task of publishing your images online. This is a great feature that can be used for field trip photos, photos of a school activity or event, or for showcasing student work.

Examples: Digital camera pictures: Flowers of Enumclaw (Simple Style)

Kid Pix Note: Images from earlier versions of Kid Pix can be used without converting to another filetype since they are in PICT or BMP format. However, the newest Kid Pix (Version 3) creates KPX files and so each file must be opened and exported as a JPG before they can be used in the Web Gallery.

Directions

The directions and screenshots below are for Photoshop Elements Version 2. See Version 1 Directions if needed.

bullet Choose File > Create Web Photo Gallery. You will see the following screen:

bulletClick Styles to choose the layout format you prefer. A preview version of your choice is at right on the screen.
bulletIn the Folders area click Browse... to specify the folder containing the original images.
bulletSelect Include All Subfolders to include images inside any subfolders of the chosen folder.
bulletThe images can be in many different formats and Photoshop will translate them to JPG.
bulletIn the Folders area click Destination... to specify the folder you want the newly created images and Web pages to go into. This should NOT be the same folder as the source folder you browsed for earlier. You can create a new folder within this window if you haven't already made one to place all the items in. You can create a folder inside your FrontPage Web and save directly there if you prefer.
bulletIn Options, choose each of the drop-down items one at a time to determine your preferences.
bulletIn Thumbnails, you want to make sure you allot enough rows and columns for the number of pictures you have if you want them all to fit on one Web page.
bulletI usually put a border of "1" on the thumbnails and a border of "2" on the large images. You may need to experiment with the size to get what you want. The large images usually should be size medium, large or larger.

bulletYou will not be able to specify colors for background and text with some of the fancier styles (Antique Paper for example). For the simpler styles you can choose colors.
bullet Click OK (and watch the magic happen!)
bullet Photoshop Elements places the following HTML and JPEG files in your destination folder:
bullet A gallery homepage, index.htm. Open this file in any Web browser to preview your photo gallery.
bullet JPEG or GIF images, inside an images subfolder.
bullet HTML page files, inside a pages subfolder.
bullet JPEG thumbnail images, inside a thumbnails subfolder.
bulletTo put this in your Web:
bulletBring the entire folder created from this process into your Web folder (or save it there to begin with in the Destination... step above)
bulletLink to the index.htm page inside this folder
bulletTo make a change or re-do this process
bulletEither delete the entire destination folder (with the finished items) or delete the contents of that folder
bulletStart the process over from the beginning
bulletAll of your settings will remain from the previous time so it will go much faster
