How do I open older Kid Pix files in Kid Pix Deluxe 3?

If you want to use Kid Pix files that you've created in older versions, you can recreate the file in Kid Pix 3 or you can add the file to Kid Pix 3 as a graphic or as a background. Read on below for directions on how to do this.
bulletKid Pix Studio Deluxe 2 can save or export a file so that Kid Pix Deluxe 3 can add it.
bullet Windows version:  saves files as .bmp
bullet Macintosh version:  rename the file with .bmp at the end like sunshine.bmp
bullet Both: You may also File Export a Graphic from Kid Pix Studio Deluxe 2 into the .jpg, .gif, or .bmp formats.
bulletIn Kid Pix Deluxe 3, use the ADD menu and Add Graphic.

bullet

Select the file type you are looking for:
bullet

Bitmap (.bmp),

bullet

JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg),

bullet

Gif (.gif), or

bullet

Macintosh Picture (.pic or .pict).

bullet

Navigate to the file you want to open and select it.

bulletWhen the graphic enters your page you will see a handle at each corner that allows you to resize the image. You can move the image by holding the mouse button down in the middle of the image as you move it. Now click outside of the image to place it. Once it is placed you will not be able to move it without using the grabber tool.

Another way to accomplish the task is to import the graphic as a Background. Use the ADD menu and Import Background. If you add it as a background, the picture is stretched to fit the size of the screen. This can be handy but can also distort the picture if the original is sized differently than the current screen size.

How do I import a Macintosh Kid Pix Studio Deluxe 2 slideshow into Kid Pix Deluxe 3?
bulletSave the slideshow as a QuickTime movie on a Macintosh. It will play in Kid Pix Deluxe 3's "Paint Zone" but you will not be able to edit it.
bulletGo up to the ADD menu and down to Add a Movie.
bulletNavigate to the movie and select it. When it opens you will see handles at each corner that allow you to resize and play the movie. You can relocate the movie by holding the mouse button down in the middle of the image as you move it.
bulletNow click outside of the movie to place it. Once it is placed you will not be able to move it without using the grabber tool.

Getting graphics from the Internet
bulletTo use graphics from the Internet (see KSD policy, copyright, and full copyright) right-click on the image in your Web browser and a pop-up menu appears.
bulletSelect the choice for "Save Image As..." and navigate to the place you would like to save it.
bulletOpen Kid Pix 3 and go to the ADD menu down to Add Graphic, which allows resizing the image.
bulletYou can also ADD and Import Background.
