- CU is an online professional
development community for educators, developed with the goal of
helping teachrs to successfully integrate technology into their
instruction. It is sold as a subscription service, allowing
teachers to use as much of the system as they like for a single
annual fee. Features of CU include collaboration tools, message
boards, resource collections, Web Drive file/project storage, and
project galleries. Classes are three- or six-week courses led by
trained "guides." Users can also access many step-by-step tutorial
modules in its "How to Center" and "Recipes for Success!"
areas.

- This company offers network and
business application training at their building sites. It also
offers online training through "Element
K Journals." This is the
company that produces the "Inside Word 97, Inside Excel, Inside
Windows 95," etc. You can look at numerous journal articles which
provide lessons taught using Microsoft products. It also offers
online training for those subscribers to their journals. Tailored
more toward the business/technical world than the education
market.

Leadership Institute: Integrating Internet, Instruction and
Curriculum (LinC)

- The Fermilab LinC is creating a
network of educational leaders who effectively use technology to
support engaged learning. Teams of classroom teachers, technology
coordinators and library media specialists create engaged learning
projects that incorporate the best uses of technology. College
credits available.

- Access Web based training courses
on computer applications, professional development, technical
certification preparation, and practical skills. This site offers
some free online training, but most of the online training occurs
with a subscription fee.

- A division of the Heritage
Institute, Heritage Online specializes in Internet-assisted
distance education for teachers. Their current program has twenty
active courses in a variety of subjects such as art, assessment,
classroom management, education, foreign language, literature,
math, science, social students, writing and technology. College

Web-based training, instructor-led courseware, skills assessment,
and computer-based training for dozens of PC applications.
InfoSource also offers advanced technical training products
