Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee, one of the country's best generals, was asked by Lincoln to command the Union army. Since Lee was a native of Virginia, he had a hard decision to make. Lee felt that he could not fight against his family and friends so he chose to be the commander of the Confederate army.
