Jefferson Davis, a Senator from Mississippi, was chosen by the Confederate States of America to be their first president.

Robert E. Lee

Robert E. Lee, one of the country's best generals, was asked by Lincoln to command the Union army. Since Lee was a native of Virginia, he had a hard decision to make. Lee felt that he could not fight against his family and friends so he chose to be the commander of the Confederate army.
